Spirituality: God Knows Not Anger

Despite Old Testament stories of an angry God, it is a human misconception that ‘God the Father’ is wrathful (though the fearful belief that He is a Punisher may seemingly be an incentive in order for some to better learn self discipline).

We need to remember that the Old Testament wasn’t recorded until most of the events described in it were long past historical occurences that were, thus, part of an oral history that had been passed on from generation to generation.

For example, part of Noah’s flood story was about describing rapidly rising global sea levels that inundated coastal communities 7,000 years ago. It mostly, however, was about the Black Sea flood that directly gave rise to the biblical story of The Great Flood.

Another example: The meteor fireball  from 1650 BCE was recounted in the biblical story about Sodom and Gomorrah.

Another example: The ‘10 Plagues’ was a remembrance of environmental travesties associated with the horrific explosion of the Santorini volcano on 1646 BCE that had devastated the eastern Mediterranean.
