Covid: Covid Rates for the Unvaccinated Have Not Decreased

I had a strange experience recently. I traveled thirty miles from the city where I live into the countryside to a tractor supply store. No one, except the cashier, was wearing a face mask. Prior to arriving, I’d seen a few signs declaring “My Life, My Choice” with drawings of face masks on them (indicating strong conservative values). Since I’m fully vaccinated, I went unmasked about my business in the store; but, it’s likely that not everyone was fully vaccinated. [The store was a huge warehouse with very few people, so social distancing and open space were favorable, but I certainly felt the social pressure to ‘not’ wear my mask.]

I’m thinking that many of them will look at the publicized decrease of Covid infection rates and feel relatively safe. However, the news rarely breaks down the stats for ‘vaccinated vs unvaccinated’. In truth, the infection rates for the unvaccinated are just as high now as in January. But, it’s “their life, their choice”.

We need to realize, with declining safety protocols and increasing risk of Covid variants, that life for the unvaccinated will become more and more hazardous. “Herd immunity”, that hated term, will eventually be achieved one way or the other. To do my part in achieving herd immunity, I choose the easier way of vaccination.

Note: Unused doses of the vaccines will be sent to other countries, and they’ll be very glad to get them.
