Global Warming ‘In A Nutshell’: Pro and Con of the Greenhouse Effect

The greenhouse effect is what keeps our planet from freezing over. This depends upon there being sufficient carbon dioxide in the atmosphere — however, if there is too much CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the air, then too much heat (Infrared Radiation) is retained.

AGW, Covid and Civil Unrest

“In times of trouble, some people find comfort in hate and anger in lieu of fear.“

In order to better understand the overreaction of many Americans during the past year, one needs to take into account the angst created by our failure to move decisively away from heavy reliance on fossil fuels. Added to other human shortcomings, as highlighted by the pandemic, it does not seem likely that we’ll be able to do so in time to avoid ‘great suffering’. The fear engendered by this is fueling problematic behaviors that are not constructive. The preferred alternative is universal proactivity.

If you are proactive, you make things happen, instead of waiting for them to happen to you. Active means ‘doing something’. The prefix pro- means ‘before ‘. So if you are proactive, you are ready before something happens. The opposite is being ‘reactive’, or waiting for things to unfold before responding.

Related article:

“Although the experience of negative emotions is generally associated with negative behaviors and outcomes, negative emotions can lead to proactive behavior. For instance, emotions such as anger and fear can spark proactive behavior by signaling a need to change the status quo... such that when anger (a generally non-cooperative  response to a perceived threat) is directed away from fight that harms others and toward fight that benefits others, and when fear is directed away from flight and toward increased protective effort (fight).”

AGW: Water vapor vs. Non-condensable Gases

Even though water vapor is the single biggest greenhouse gas contributor to global warming, because it is condensable, it does not control the Earth’s temperature. Instead, the temperature gradients are dependent upon the levels of non-condensable greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, et al. This being said, it is known that carbon dioxide and such will remain active in the biosphere for hundreds and thousands of years. This, however, will be a moot point if runaway global warming occurs, because then humanity and much of life on Earth won’t be around to witness it.

Note: A warmer atmosphere holds more moisture. Indeed, water vapor increases by 7% for “every degree Celsius aka 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit” of warming.

COVID-19: Visibly ill people aren’t being kept off planes

Only a few airlines, such as Avianca and Frontier, take the temperature of each passenger before boarding.

I’ve posted a series on Covid-19 that reveals much of humanity’s weaknesses as revealed by the pandemic —
