Global Warming: Human Mis•Creation

Industrialization has been powered largely, though not exclusively, by the energy of the sun stored in fossil fuels. Though pollution of our biosphere has been quantified, the greenhouse gases released by our utilization of coal and hydrocarbons have caused other problems not so easily measured. This difficulty had allowed fossil fuel corporate interests some remotely plausible deniability of culpability relating to global warming up until recently. Now, however, even 8th grade Earth Science students know that the greenhouse effect is simple physical science that is demonstrable in the classroom setting with two clear soda bottles, two rubber stoppers, water, 2 Alka Seltzer tablets (CO2), two thermometers and a heat lamp. Add to this a short presentation about light and infrared radiation and there is no rational denial of the greenhouse effect and no sensible denying of the reality of global warming and its influence on our changing climate.

Note: I realize that some people are fixated upon the belief that global warming is a hoax perpetrated by sinister forces. That’s politics. The greenhouse effect is science. And any inability to grasp the effect of greenhouse gases as shown above puts us all at greater risk.
