Global Warming: Reality Check...

...re·al·i·ty check- noun: an occasion on which one is reminded of the state of things in the real world.

Earth’s average temperature range is dependent upon the percentage of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. At current levels, ice melt and permafrost thaw shall continue until such time that there is no more ice and no more permafrost. Realistically, the methane release resulting from the continuing permafrost melt will actually increase the level of methane in the atmosphere, and this does not include the melting of oceanic methane hydrate. Additionally, we humans have not stopped contributing to the increase of greenhouse gases, either. So, it seems that mankind needs a Reality Check that cannot be ignored by even the most ignorant of my brethren.

I’m sure such will be forthcoming. But, like the drunken homeowner who ignored their smoke alarm’s loud warning, the Reality Check of burning rafters falling on our heads will be too late.
